Salutations!
Welcome one and all. I intend to focus primarily on electronic issues with the blog since that is my area of formal training. I'll try to keep up with developments in battery, motor, and controller technology as well as feature explanations of some terms we use and how they affect choices (eg: the relationship between Kv, Voltage, and gearing).Back in the gas days, we used the manufacturer designated engine size and chose between one or two props. Now motor, battery, gearbox, and prop all should conform to the type of flying desired. When I started flying electrics, there were exactly two BL motors suitable for Parkflyer use (Astro 010, and Hacker B20S series). Now there are several dozen. NiCad's were the only batteries. Now there are NiCad, NiMH, Lithium, Lithium Polymer, and soon Saphions.
We'll try to navigate through the strengths and weaknesses of the available choices to help chose the best fit for our applications.
Kudos to Tim for getting this up and running so quickly!
